I was invited to create the illustration for "Squi´nal Xim Ixim" / "The Corn Festival", an animated short film depicting the Q'anjob'al tale of oral tradition that tells the story of the corn festival and the importance behind it. The illustrations are inspired by drawings made by the children of the community of San Lorenzo School in Chiapas, Mexico, the region where the Q'anjob'al language is spoken. This video is part of  '68 Voces 68 corazones', a series of animated short stories written and narrated in indigenous languages. The project series seeks not only to help promote Mexico's 68 indigenous languages but to foster pride, knowledge and respect amongst speakers and non speakers under the premise that “nadie puede amar lo que no conoce” (no one can love what they don’t know).
Thank you to the children of the community of San Lorenzo School, Chiapas for their amazing drawings.
